APPLICATIONS OPEN JULY 1 | CLOSING JULY 30
Looking to launch & grow your publication?
Start.coop is accepting applications for our first-ever accelerator for worker-friendly media.
With support from:
OCTOBER 13, 2026 - JANUARY 28, 2027
About the Media Accelerator Program
The Start.coop Accelerator for Worker-Friendly Media exists to address a critical gap in the media ecosystem: the lack of accessible support, capital pathways, and proven infrastructure for building worker-owned media companies.
By focusing on cooperative ownership, the program advances a more equitable and resilient media economy—one where information, ownership, decision-making, and wealth are shared more broadly.
OCTOBER 13, 2026 - JANUARY 28, 2027
Through a structured 12-week cohort program, the Accelerator equips founders with the tools, mentorship, and networks needed to launch and grow sustainable cooperative businesses.
Using our Lean Co-op Methodology, founders leave with validated business and ownership models, a deeper understanding of governance and financing, and a clear roadmap for growth that strengthens local media systems while contributing to a more inclusive economy overall—key inputs that increase the likelihood of long-term business sustainability and impact.
Over 12 weeks of the Media Accelerator, the Start.coop team will work with you to:
Validate your business model
Build a plan to drive sales and grow your revenue
Validate your cooperative governance model
Explore different types of financing for your business
Develop traction for your business’s sustainability
Develop your storytelling through your deck

Financial viability: Does the business or revenue model make sense? Is it viable long-term? Is there more than one clearly-defined revenue stream?
Industry Experience: Does the founding team have relevant industry experience?
Ability to execute: Can the founding team execute on their vision?
